Reaching Out

Galatians 6: 9-10 ESV

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

As the virus continues and our lives are still a world away from what anyone would have called normal, how many of us have formed a new routine?

As we look back to those early days of the lock down when everything was different, everyone was at threat, the priorities of life had shifted and there were signs that people do actually care for each other. Maybe it was the call to an isolated person, a food delivery to those who were not leaving the house or the offer to volunteer with NHS. It showed us that humans aren’t all bad, it gave us hope that when things can go back to normal, we could create a new normal, a better world, a less selfish world.  A world that was returning to the teaching of Jesus!

Eight weeks in though have we found our new normal? because although we may not like the thought of change, we have been fearfully and wonderfully made and actually adapt to life very quickly whatever is thrown at us. Have we got to a point where the things that seemed very different just a few week ago are now just part of how we live at the moment? Have the good deeds and the communication slipped back as we get into the new rhythm of life in lockdown?

Let us not as the scripture say grow weary of doing good but be the people who are always doing things to help following the example of Jesus. Not doing good for reward or profit, not just for a season - but wherever we can for the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth. Let us, through the things we do, shine the light of Jesus into the world.  Let the change that this season can bring be the one that can change everything, a world that knows the love of Jesus.
